The best book in the trilogy - utterly addictive • • • • • (bewertet mit 5 von 5 Punkten) A friend told me that, out of the three Millenium books, this one was the best. And she was right. It was totally gripping from beginning to end. In this book, we finally get to find out the past life history of Lisbeth Salander. After remaining a mysterious enigma in book one, her life is finally laid out bare in this second book. Nils Bjurman, who attacked Salander in book one, is determined to get his revenge on Salander and he hires a professional to have her kidnapped. Little does he realise what he is getting into. Meanwhile Salander has been travelling on Wennerstrom's stolen billions and she eventually arrives back in Sweden and sets up a new life for herself in a secret Stockholm apartment. Then two people are murdered, a Millenium journalist and his wife. They had been working on an expose on the illegal sex trade in Sweden which promised to end the careers of some very important people. But Lisbeth Salander is accused of the double murder and soon a massive police hunt is under way for her. Mikael Blomkvist knows she is innocent and sets out to prove it and find the real killer. But the police and media have already decided Salander's guilt. She needs to prove she didnt do it but to do that, she needs to bare her soul and reveal her secrets. TOTALLY fantastic. My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that Larsson cuts off the story in book two suddenly, forcing you to buy book three (not that I personally need to be forced). It isn't a "standalone" book. He just abruptly stops the story as if to say "want to know what happened next? Then get book three!".
