I loved Foer's first book and therefore purchased this one - to my regret. It drags on with a young boy's weird thoughts in the face of understandable desperation (something a child of his age, however could never articulate, hence incredibly incredible...) without relief for the reader. It has something pathological about it without being endearing (like for example, The Curious Incident of a Dog at Midnight). Because a star has to be given, I opted for one - otherwise it would have been zero....
